2008-01-31 Accham district - preparing for the return of minors from Maoist cantonments
 
January 2008 - UNMIN’s Child Protection team in the Far-Western region visited Achham district in the last week of January to monitor child rights and liaise in preparation for the return of minors to be discharged from Maoist cantonments.

The team met local youths, human rights activists and other agencies working in child rights’ sector in the district. They listened to local community members concerns about the return and reintegration process.

“Education comes much later. Firstly they need love, food, shelter, clothes and then the right type of education from which they can learn something in their life,” UNMIN was told by one community member.

Chetraj Upadyaya, coordinator of PEACEWIN, a non-governmental organization working to help reintegrate children affiliated with armed forces and groups, spoke about preparations in Achham, “Organisations here have met a few times in Achham to share information about the programmes as well as documents related to children. UNMIN has been helping us regarding additional procedures and process.”
